Russellville, KY, February 4, 2015– Individuals interested in wanting to improve their own health as well as the health of others in Logan County are encouraged to attend the first meeting of the Logan Extension and Public Health Expanding Community Teams (EPHECT) Community Health Coalition.

The meeting will be Monday, February 16, from 12:00 to 2:00 at the Logan County Extension Office. A light lunch will be provided.

The coalition is the first step in the process of improving the health of all Logan County residents. It is a part of the project titled Collaborative Environmental Approaches to Reduce Obesity Disparities in Kentucky that is administered by the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment and the College of Public Health. UK received a $1.8 million cooperative agreement from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service to focus on lowering obesity rates in counties with obesity rates higher than 40 percent of the total population.

In six qualifying Kentucky counties, agents with the UK Cooperative Extension Service will work with community and state partners, including county health department personnel, UK extension specialists, UK public health specialists, and community health coalition members, to not only lower obesity rates, but also improve residents’ overall health. Strategies will be based on each county’s needs and feedback provided at the coalition meetings.

Freeland CDJR to host test drive event to raise money for the Logan County Future Farmers of America.
Russellville, Ky. – Freeland Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram will be hosting a Test Drive Event on Saturday, April 26 from 10:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. that will benefit the Logan County FFA.
General Manager, Nick Rice provided us the details for the event.
Ram has offered to donate $20 for every test drive of a Ram truck to the local FFA chapter associated with the dealership. As part of the contest, Freeland CDJR has agreed to cover half of the costs with Ram in order to reach the dealership and Logan Co. FFA’s goal of 500 test drives, raising a total of $10,000.
“Across the nation, Ram selected 150 dealerships to compete in this event,” said Rice. “The top five dealerships with the most test drives will win a free Easton Corbin concert on site at the dealership.”
When speaking with Brian Estes, FFA Faculty Advisor at Logan County High School, he told us he’s extremely excited about this partnership.
“We’ve now been given the opportunity the raise a large sum of money that will benefit the Chapter in a multitude of ways,” said Estes. “We’re very excited for this event and grateful to be the participating chapter with Ram and Freeland CDJR.”
Estes tells us the funds raised by the event will go to the purchase of a Concession Trailer, Alumni Senior Scholarships and the Logan Co. FFA Chapter.
The FFA will also be providing free lunch to the first 500 test drives of the day.
Freeland CDJR will have entertainment on site, food cooking on the grill, music by WRUS and DJ entertainment by Clay Bilyeu.
“It’s going to be a fun day on the lot and it’ll all go to a great cause,” said Rice. “I really want to blow these other dealerships out of the water. I want us to raise the most money for our FFA and be able to bring Easton Corbin to Russellville.”
All you have to do is come to the dealership, fill out a form to take a test drive and drive with one of our friendly employees – it’s that simple.
